Teaser Tuesday, 26th Edition

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I am doing a slightly different version of Teaser Tuesday. Since I go through books so quickly, I'm going to put a quote from any book I've read in the past week.

"Once settled, I looked down at Cahil from what now felt like an uncomfortable height. For this vantage point, the ground at his feet seemed to transform from plush grass to hard and unyielding earth." - Magic Study, by Maria V. Snyder

"He thinks I'm scared. Okay, I am scared, but the idea of Tucker thinking I'm chicken makes my jaw tighten in determination." - Unearthly, by Cynthia Hand

"'Don’t tempt me.' But his voice had lost its coldness — now it just sounded tired." - Winter's Passage, by Julie Kagawa

"We all turned to where Warren was trying to sneak down the corridor without being seen. He froze, wincing at the sound of his name, and gave Leanansidhe a feeble smile." - The Iron Daughter, by Julie Kagawa

"Papa and Professor Graham were in the middle of planning right from the start, because the expedition was bringing back live specimens, including two swarming weasels, a baby mammoth, some rocketflowers, and a couple of other things the Great Barrier Spell had been specifically designed to keep out. That meant the college magicians had to open a hole in the barrier, long enough for the expedition to get everything across to our side of the Mammoth River." - Thirteenth Child, by Patricia C. Wrede

What are you reading this week?
