Friday Face-Off: A Beautiful Dark vs. Baci Immortali

Friday Face-Off is a weekly feature hosted by Misty at The Book Rat

My very first Friday Face-Off compares the covers of A Beautiful Dark
by Jocelyn Davies and Baci Immortali (the Italian edition of Lips Touch:
Three Times), by Laini Taylor.

I personally think the cover for A Beautiful Dark is the more striking cover; although I really like how the red and black of the bird and the rose stand out on the Baci Immortali cover the girl herself seems to fade into the background. However, I would strongly recommend viewing the larger version of Bacci Immortali. The small details like the black tear tracks down the girl's face and the lace of the dress really transform the image.

And now it's your turn to choose...
Which cover did it better?

For me, it's Beautiful Dark all the way. I think the additions in the other look really photoshopped (the rose, the raven), but what it comes down to most for me is the neck. In BI, the angle of the model's body has made her sleeves completely obscure her neck and it looks unnatural and truncated. The model on BD's neck is nicely elongated, and it fits better with the overall flow of the movement.

I agree. The rose and the raven don't seem too photoshop-y to me, but the way that the model's sleeve covers her neck in the cover for Baci Immortali ruins the pose. Also, the red of the rose along with the petals falling down always makes me think the girl's just been shot. Thanks for stopping by, Misty!
